Long time no see! I’ve been taking a little break from social media and it’s given me time to focus on what I’m most passionate about at this time: film-making! Okay, so really it’s more like vlog-making, but I still consider my vlogs mini-films because the creative process is the same.
I’m focusing more on videography because it’s new and exciting to me. Filming and editing videos are more complicated to me than just posting a photo of my meals on Instagram, so I appreciate the challenge of learning this new skill.
It’s not that I have anything against food photography, there are plenty of food photographers I admire, but at this time I’m no longer interested in taking photos of the food I eat. I’ve gotten progressively bored with my Instagram feed since I basically eat the same thing day in and day out, so photographing the same bowls of oatmeal, pasta, and rice doesn’t do anything for me. I need to be challenged creatively and I need to be learning new things.
Also, I feel like I’ve said all that needs to be said about food. My way of eating isn’t novel in any sense; it’s just a whole foods plant-based diet. My meals are centred around starches and supplemented with fruit and vegetables. I eat little fat and avoid oil at all costs yet my meals are satisfying, nutritious, easy to prepare and cheap.
While I’m happy to persuade others to eat this way because of the innumerable health benefits, I’ve grown tired of “preaching” about this lifestyle. In the end, it’s up to the individual to make a change in their diet, and really all the information about eating this way already exists in a much more concise and well-written form, in books like The Starch Solution, The China Study, Forks Over Knives, etc.
So I’m basically done with focusing on food. From now on, I hope to blog about our travels and our van life, since we will be acquiring a van in a few weeks, converting it into a living space, and travelling through Europe for the next few years. (Who knows where we’ll end up, though!)
I’m not sure how often I’ll post on this blog, but I’ll try to do quick and casual daily updates along with my daily vlogs on my YouTube channel. I hope I can use this blog as a journal of sorts, where I can express myself and vent if I need to. I imagine transitioning to living out of a tiny van will have its challenges, so writing (and vlogging) about it will not only serve as an outlet to relieve stress, but it will help others who hope to live out of a van at some point. We’re basically working out all the kinks of van life so you don’t have to!
We’ve waited over a year to start our van life journey, and in three weeks we’ll be in Poznań where we hope to secure (and build) our new home. We have one week left in Sarajevo, five nights in Zagreb, two nights in Vienna, three nights in Bratislava, four nights in Kraków before we arrive in Poznań. We might even be able to buy a van in Kraków and drive it to Poznań instead.
The other day Kuba told me that he likes how we both are so excited for everything that comes our way. This is true! We’re excited about our future each and every day but we still appreciate and live in the present moment. 🙂
So this is all I have for today. Feel free to check out my daily vlogs on my YouTube channel. In yesterday’s vlog I show you everything I own:
And later today I’m filming a Q&A video where I answer your questions! I post Q&A videos every Wednesday, so if you have a question you’d like me to answer, let me know!
Thanks for reading. I hope you have a great day!
