I had a bit of a lie in this morning since it’s Saturday. I slept in until 9:30 and it felt so good! I guess I needed the extra sleep.
I never thought of myself as a morning person but now I appreciate waking up early. Instead of sleeping until 9:30 or 10:00 during the week, like I used to, 8:30 is the latest I allow myself to get out of bed. This is when Kuba leaves for work so I force myself up as soon as he kisses me goodbye.
When I’d wake up around 9:30 or 10:00, by the time I’d check emails, social media, and make breakfast, it would be close to noon. Kuba comes home for lunch around then, so I’m chatting with him until 13:00, and then I’d finally start working on stuff. This would leave me with just a few hours to edit photos, study languages, and run errands before dinner prep around 17:00. And by the time Kuba returns from work around 17:30, I’m more interested in spending time with him than working on my laptop.
I didn’t plan on becoming a morning person since I’ve always stayed up late, but I had some friendly encouragement the other week. I started waking up earlier at 7:00 because I was dog-sitting. Smash needed to take medication at 7:00 and 19:00 every day, so I started my day bright and early with a nice walk to the nearest grassy area.
At first, I thought waking up at 7:00 would be difficult but a brisk walk with Smash in the cool morning air was the perfect way to start my day!
Waking up early means my days are longer. I have more time during the day not only to work on my photography and studies, but I have more time to enjoy my meals, more time to socialise with friends as my schedule isn’t so tight, and more time to spend with Kuba.
Today I was explaining to him how I feel like I’m more efficient now when it comes to my work. Last summer I felt like I was struggling with writing daily blog posts, but now I’m able to accomplish so much more. I’m writing every day, studying multiple languages, completing a raw food nutritionist course, setting up photo shoots with my DSLR, filming, editing photos and video, running errands, meeting up with friends, and I still feel like I have plenty of free time. He suggested that maybe it’s because I’m waking up earlier. I think he’s right!
I think I’ll go back to waking up early at 7:00 (at least Monday – Friday) simply because I’m more productive during the day. I also doubt I’ll be able to sleep much later than that once we are in Spain. 🙂
Are you a morning person?
Why or why not?
